Out to Launch
Saucony launched its first-ever TV spot, asking runners, "What is strong?" Good question. As a runner, I can totally relate. Shaving minutes off a previous PR would be ideal, yet even shavings seconds from a PR is a massive accomplishment. As track runners, trail runners and roadrunners dig deep, a voiceover asks: "Is it [strong] measured in miles or milliseconds? Is it your best time or your worst day?" The spot ends with a shirtless runner making his way through scenic hills, and copy stating: "Find your strong." Watch the ad here, created by Mechanica and produced by Shilo.

"...When we were recording Paul’s voiceover for the Green Label Art spot, we asked him a lot of questions about skateboarding, and we got some really interesting audio of him speaking from the heart. Back in the Shilo office in NYC, editor Nathan Caswell got a hold of the footage and we approached it with no set length in mind. We layed some of the best parts of Paul’s interview audio over our footage, then added a reference track and it just really started coming together. When we shared it with the agency, they said they got chills watching it...."

Shilo recently completed a pair of spots for Dick’s Sporting Goods and Under Armour and for AT&T. In the first spot, World Cup Ski champion Lindsey Vonn promotes Under Armour's flagship ColdGear line in a spot titled "ColdGear.” It shows Vonn at a Dicks retail store where she tests the apparel in what’s called a “Cold Abuse simulator”basically, a robotic ski slope positioned in front of what looks like a jet engine, which blasts cold air and snow her way. Shilo’s creative arm, We Make It Good, and creative director Clayton Vomero (who co-wrote the script along with Shilo CD Andre Stringer), found an authentic factory location in Los Angeles and worked with Vonn to capture her performance and the desired atmospheric reality on the set. From there, they added additional details in their studio to heighten the story's visual drama. Shilo credits go to DP Martin Ahlgren, Lead Artist Tamir Sapir, 3D Animator Erik Lee, EP Tracy Chandler and editor Nate Caswell. Gavin Little handled sound design from Echo Lab. For the second spot, Shilo teamed with BBDO and AT&T to demonstrate the smart phone touchscreen performance on the AT&T network. In “Piano,” award-winning pianist Kwan Yi plays a "smart phone piano" on stage at Broadway Stages' Studio D in Brooklyn, New York. The instrument has phone in place of keys; tapping each phone to produce a tone, the piano lights up as each screen is touched to illustrate that smartphone touchscreens run faster on AT&T. Max Goldman was DP for Shilo. Mophonics handled sound design and Mike Marinelli of Sonic Union performed the final mix. Agency credits go to Darren Wright, David Skinner, Michael Bae, Becky Burkhard and Bob Emerson.

BrotherSister “Still Run”> Taking a night jog through an artist’s subconscious is how we’d describe Shilo’s music video for Aussie experimental duo BrotherSister. The video seems to consciously defy description, leaning more toward the emotive with its highly detailed, atmospheric and dream-like landscapes that combine photos of custom-built miniatures, VFX and CG. Described as an “inspirational side-project”, Shilo collaborated with the band over the course of a year, adding additional sound design by Echolab’s Gavin Little.

ad gets me excited for baseball season and my New York Mets. Jose Reyes,
shortstop for the Mets, stars in a TV ad for Under Armour. The ad promotes
Under Armour's new Heater baseball cleat while showcasing what Reyes does
best: steal bases. In the ad, Reyes successfully steals two bases, while
wearing a form-fitting blue Under Armour shirt. "If I get a good jump,

Fast," the spot reinforces Under Armour's performance training platform

also created 3D elements including the spot's animated branded elements,
and handled editing, visual effects and finishing for each of the spot's

Even ads for the biggest videogames tend to play it safe, which makes the
arrival of Shilo's beautifully stylised spot for Electronic Arts' action
sequel Mercenaries 2: World In Flames all the more heartening....

may be our favorite design firm so we were a sucker for this Guinness spot,
which combines Shilo's trademark dark-think-of-England-being-bombed-in-WWII-ish
animation with live action and an actor's reading worthy of Shakespeare.
What the hell does this have to do with beer? Nothing, which is what makes
it so iconic. We struggle ourselves every day, trying to get somewhere
important -- career, family, finances, athleticism, just the evening commute.
Guinness hit an emotional chord with us, their demo. Um, but we won't drink
it on the journey home. Hat tip to Saatchi & Saatchi London,

un spot que lleva unas semanas circulando por la red y por las pantallas
de Caribbean TV. El performer-poeta-artista narrativo Ainsley Burrows relata

Sus frases se ven subrayadas con elegantes grafismos que multiplican la

depicts the compelling monologue of a man accompanied by gorgeous literal
graphical interpretations of his speech. I’ve always been a big fan of
Shilo, I bought their monograph some time ago and it has a pretty interesting

PSA. The piece, titled Burma Viral, uses footage of warplanes bombing Burma
with flowers as a dramatic call-to-action. It invites viewers to visit
a new Burma Arts Board website (noneofusarefree.org), where people can
send messages of support to the people of Burma in honour of their continued
struggle against an oppressive military government and the devastation

is "Ca$h," a fun little ad for a gratuitously violent game called Mercenaries
2: World in Flames. I love how it illustrates the acquisition of profit
by unethical means: the seedy backdrops, filthy oceans, and characters'
faces all bear the delightfully crisp stamp of currency. And the
song! It's convivial and music-hallish, the kind of thing you learn the
words to, then leap around and mouth while blowing holes through the furniture
with your bad-ass mercenary fingertips. What a feast it'll be for the PTC
when these role models invade their living rooms....

came across Shilo after watching their amazing Burma PSA the other day
and I am really diggin’ these guys. All the ads that they have made are
ultra original and creative. Oh and when I was looking at their site, their
latest ad was for Mercenaries 2! Go figure! I am glad studios like Shilo
are given the nod to do game trailers/ads. I can’t tell you how tired I
was getting watching the same old game trailers/ads with really cliche
music, titles, and gameplay. All the industry heads bitch and moan about
how games are an art, yet the commercials the public gets to see look like
they are made by some nerd locked in his parent’s basement. Now that creative
houses like Shilo have been hired to create some ads the public might actually
change their stereotypes....

Working
with San Francisco agency Draftfcb for Electronic Arts, Shilo created "Ca$h"
to promote the upcoming release of "Mercenaries 2: World in Flames." It's
a fun spot that feels like it was created with the same wry grin the protagonist
wears through most of the action. Shilo did a great job controlling the
pallete and textures to match US currency, as well as borrowing elements
from bills to use as architectural and environmental props. The skull-shaped
smoke is a great image, too. I could see that on the bottom of a skateboard
deck. Or maybe tattooed on a bicep....

Absolutely
stunning animation. From the None of Us Are Free website: So what
you first thought was the world’s military might raining bombs on Burma,
is in fact an overwhelming carpet of flowers falling over the beautiful
burmese landscape. Why? Simply because the people of burma have endured
over forty years of brutal military tyranny and have fought back with nothing

were brainstorming with a friend from another agency today about how to
start a viral campaign ... you know, create the type of communication that
mavens and connectors would tip into their networks, who in turn would
pass it to the world, cascading us to success while saving the client media
money. And it hit us. Anyone can map out the dynamic of exponential returns.
But the seed has to be fertile, an idea so powerful and treatment so riveting
that people want to pass it along. Sort of like this. Brilliant PSA work
by filmmaker shop Shilo. Backstory here. Music is Chopin's Nocturne C minor

It
was always going to be hard to compete with the 2 previous DJ mixes in
the series (large up Pretty Titty, Chris Devlin) but i managed to surpass
them (haha jokes!). Nah serious that’s too bold a claim, but I am happy
with how it turned out. Its a fair representation of some of the jams i’m
playing in my club sets right now. And the mix is very ‘right now’. As
I write this, none of the tracks have been released yet. Not that I just
play dubs, mind. I draw loads of old and familiar tunes, too, because that
would be dumb and who cares how exclusive you are anyhow. I really wanted
the mix to be a kinda preview to a whole bunch of stuff to get excited
about in the forthcoming months. It was a good place to air some new productions
fresh out the HD (machines dont care, the count and sinden) and big up
a few new cats too (rude kid, detboi, mujava). Enjoy!
