Co-Founder,
Creative Director, Director |
Born
in Annapolis, Maryland, André Stringer studied film and graphic
design at Baltimore's Towson University, where his interests in motion
graphics and traditional filmmaking began cross-pollinating and opening
up exciting opportunities. After several years of contributing to
high-profile video projects in the skateboarding market, he co-founded
Staticopy in 1995, forming a collaborative venture to unite his design
and filmmaking pursuits. Among Staticopy's more renowned creative
endeavors was the hour-long underground hip hop documentary “Open Transport,”
which was released in 2000 and earned international acclaim as a benchmark
for independent hip-hop filmmaking. As a result of his work with
Staticopy, André was contracted to reinvigorate BET’s on-air branding.
Serving for two years as the growing network's art director, focusing on
network-wide initiatives, André's next move took him to Chicago,
where he worked as a creative director and director at award-winning creative
branding company, Digital Kitchen (DK). At DK, Andre directed projects
for HBO, Microsoft Xbox and Budweiser -- all the while continuing to pursue
work in the skateboarding market. Having met and formed a solid connection
with his future Shilo partner, Jose Gomez, while shooting a skateboard
film, in 2004, André moved to New York City to launch Shilo’s “Big
Apple” studio, where he serves as creative director and director, and continues
fulfilling his passions for storytelling, filmmaking, design, and experimental
endeavors.
