Growing
up in the Bond County, Illinois and Osceola County, Florida regions, Scott
Darnell’s reputation as a premier athlete was established at an early age.
A sensation as a baseball pitcher, he grew to 6’5” in high school and earned
letters as a star football, basketball and baseball player. Following
those exploits, Scott worked for over ten years as a fabricator, heavy
equipment operator, master welder and foreman, then went on to become
a superintendent on multimillion-dollar construction projects. In
1991, at the age of 27, he suffered a life-altering spinal injury.
Since that time, as a resourceful, ambitious, independent C-5/6 quadriplegic
who has counseled medical professionals, others with spinal injuries and
their families, he has transformed his experiences and dreams into numerous
inventions aimed at helping create important new mobility options for wheelchair-bound
individuals. Scott remains an avid sports fan, and is also an expert
on adaptive mobility systems. |
