For Immediate Release
ATTIK
ADDS DESIGN DIRECTOR
AND DESIGNER TO SAN FRANCISCO STAFF
SAN
FRANCISCO – (Jan. 19, 2006) – Global creative agency ATTIK (www.attik.com)
today announced two key new hires for its San Francisco operation:
Paul Miller joins the agency as design director, and Sunjin Kim comes aboard
as a designer. Both appointments are effective immediately, and the
announcement was made by Simon Needham, ATTIK co-founder and group creative
director.
Miller
is a 1993 BFA Communication Arts and Design graduate from Virginia Commonwealth
University who spent the past two years as a freelance designer based in
Washington, DC, focusing on the printed medium and commercial interiors
for clients including DivisionOne Architects, AKQA and Germany’s M-Publication.
From 2001 through 2003, he was AKQA’s design director in charge of online
media, with overall creative and design responsibilities for projects for
the Smithsonian Institute, Harley Davidson, AT&T and Greenpeace.
Prior to that, he spent seven years as the senior art director for DC’s
Magnet Interactive, providing creative and design leadership to the company’s
design department for internal brand development and external work for
Swissair, Nissan, Infiniti, Radisson, WPP, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,
Discovery Channel, DuPont and the National AIDS Fund, among many others.
He was also a co-founder of the DC design collectives Mesh (2001-2003)
and Airline Industries (1995-2001), both of which specialized in multidisciplinary
graphic arts and interiors, and he began his career in Miami designing
for such clients as Ocean Drive Magazine and Animal Farm clothing.
His work has been exhibited and presented widely, and he has been honored
with awards from The Art Directors Club, AIGA DC, The New York Festivals,
Omni Intermedia, NewMedia Invision Awards and Print Magazine.
“The
first reason we hired Paul is his design eye,” Needham began. “He's a fabulous
graphic designer. His work fits really well with the sort of stuff
that we do. I can honestly say that I've interviewed at least a hundred
designers to find him. He's very intelligent and a very good thinker,
his execution is excellent, and his range of skills is really unlimited.”
“ATTIK’s
legacy as a design leader in the industry had always been intriguing to
me,” Miller said. “After meeting the team, I knew it would be a missed
opportunity not to be involved in the process of its growth. The talent
here is unsurpassed.”
A
1995 BFA Graphic Design graduate of Pennsylvania's Moore College of Art
and Design, Sunjin Kim studied under the direct tutelage of renowned designers
Armin Hoffman, Pierre Mendell, Paul Rand and Wolfgang Weingart, and also
studied Graphic Design at Yale University's Summer Design program in Switzerland.
Her professional experience includes creative/art direction and design
contributions to Philadelphia-based Gyro Worldwide and 32, and to countless
websites and client projects as a freelance designer. She has also
served as a professor, lecturer and senior communication professional at
Philadelphia's University of the Arts. Her work, which spans print
illustration and interactive design, has appeared in numerous galleries
and exhibits, in design annuals from Yen Magazine (Australia), P.I.E. Books
(Japan), The Rethink Redesign Reconstruct Book (USA), Step Magazine, Altpick
and Shift (Japan). She also earned a 2003 Gold Art Director's Club
Award for Package Design.
“Most
of the things I said about Paul relate to Sunjin as well,” Needham continued.
“Specifically, her knowledge and talents, education and execution are all
excellent. And because she's worked on her own for several years,
she's very competent at dealing with clients and is very self sufficient.”
On
joining ATTIK, Kim explained, “I wanted to be part of ATTIK because there
are so many collaborative opportunities to work with amazing designers
in a variety of capacities, where we can join forces to do really interesting
things. Most importantly, I wanted to be in a creative environment
where people appreciate ideas and teamwork.”
ATTIK’s
global CEO Ric Peralta also confirmed that the growing agency is continuing
to seek new talent at all levels for open positions within its locations
in Leeds, England, and in San Francisco and New York in the U.S.
