Born in Huddersfield in northern England, James Sommerville studied typography and print design at Batley School of Art, where he met fellow student and artist Simon Needham. In 1987, leveraging a £2,000 grant from The Princes Trust's Business Program, James and Simon joined forces to launch their design studio - which is today a renowned global creative agency with offices in Leeds, San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles. In honor of their contributions to British Design, James and Simon were invited to meet The Queen of England and the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace in 2005. An active member of The Prince's Trust Enterprises' Yorkshire and Humberside Committees, and an advisor to The Trust's headquarters in London, James provided the keynote introduction of HRH The Prince of Wales at a Buckingham Palace fundraising dinner reception for 300 VIP Guests early in 2006, and also served as a high-profile ambassador for The Trust throughout its recent 30th Anniversary Celebration, which included an appearance on BBC 24 and on a special fundraising edition of ITV's "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" James' present role as Group Creative Director for ATTIK U.K. maintains his involvement in all major European projects, including with Coca-Cola global projects to help position the brand, and ongoing account work for Adidas, Heineken UK and others. In the United Kingdom, James also spends time on the academic, design and business lecture circuit, having recently presented at events in London, Madrid, Moscow, New York, San Francisco, Oslo, Toronto, Amsterdam and Paris. Along with Simon Needham, he also creatively steered NoiseFive, ATTIK's latest experimental design book. By virtue of James' and his colleagues' firmly established company ethos, ATTIK continues to attract the world's most innovative brands - large and small - and the world's best creative talents.
